RELATED PROJECTS

Below we present some of the projects developed by the founders of Rivers of Movement association.

This is a series of personal initiatives –most of them workshops of various formats - that we implemented in recent years, with the collaboration of different entities and thanks to the involvement of participants.

All of them are part of our professional activity that complements the work of the association. We consider these projects linked to Rivers of Movement because they share the same approach and values of the association through the arts of movement.

Roots in motion (Barcelona/Maresme 2011-2017)

This is a project based on creative exploration and conscious movement. It is aimed at diverse social groups that share their interest in dance as a tool for self-awareness, collective creative processes and transformation.

This video features a small compilation of a range of workshops taught by Lucía Bretos, such as ‘Afro dances’, ‘Movement and physical expression’ and ‘Theatre-Dance’. These workshops make part of a larger project developed by Lucía, who is one of the creators of Rivers of Movement Association. This piece was recorded between 2016-2017 by Looky Productions. And the collaboration of several entities and youth centers from Barcelona and Maresme.

Thanks to the commitment of all the people that took part in the workshops in the last seven years, Roots in Motion is more alive than ever. That also means it is open to the participation and exchange between those who are interested in the we live and share dance as a dimension of expressive and transformative force that is inherent to human being.

Trobades en Escena (Mataró, 2015-2017)

Project to create a dance-theater company driven by the participants themselves. All are involved in the creative processes, both individually and collectively, where creative, reflexive, autonomy and self-recognition skills are enhanced.

The sessions are opportunities to facilitate inclusion and social transformation. In order to achieve such goals, the group works with the potential and the creative capacity inherent in each person. We aim to  to break any prejudice and limit any stereotypes that often comes socially imposed.

Dancing in Family (2015-2017)

Three years ago we launched this project that encourages both kids and adults, whose goal is to create a playing and caring space in which we relate to and from the body.

In these sessions children and their families share the experience of movement while enjoying the possibilities of their bodies, imagining and playing together their most creative movement. Each session becomes a trip of discoveries that makes us enjoy a lot!

Currently, the Dancing in Family activity takes place one Saturday a month at Casa Orlandai Civic Center with María Mendoza and/o Lucía Bretos.

Dance and Movement for elderly people (2015-2017)

This project claims and promotes spaces for elderly people to deepen the practice of their own dance: that movement which is spontaneous and healthy, that makes us feel alive and enjoy our body. In these workshops the group becomes a medium where the participants explore and accompany each other in the process of continuous discovery of their own physical potential, in any of its dimensions and conditions.

Currently the dance and movement workshop is held every quarter at the Casal de Gent Gran Can Fàbregas, by María Mendoza.
